The gold standard in carotid end arterectomy
shunting.
The Pruitt-Inahara Carotid Shunt maintains
continuous cerebral blood flow while reducing the
risk of trauma or vessel lesions that may occur as a
result of clamping.
No-clamp occlusion of internal and common carotid
arteries can be achieved with this dual balloon
catheter using a small incision, minimal dissection
and a short arteriotomy.
Plaque endpoints can be visualized because the
balloon holds the artery open during the procedure.
This is especially important with high stenoses,
when clamps cannot be used.
- Vessel clamping is not required.
- Safety balloon with a moveable plastic
sheath minimizes risk of internal carotid artery
balloon over-inflation (pressure diverted to the
safety balloon).
- Blood flow and pressure monitoring can be
performed through the T-port, along with
infusion and flushing and removal of embolic
particles.
- Any particles that enter on insertion of the
shunt can exit through the side port.
Internal carotid balloon: made of latex,
the balloon has an 8 mm diameter at maximum liquid
capacity of 0.25 ml.
Common carotid balloon: has a 14 mm diameter
at a maximum liquid capacity of 1.50 ml. Blue common
carotid balloon corresponds to blue stopcock to
simplify common carotid balloon inflation.
Flow rates: the 9F model with a blood
pressure of 120/80 mmHg has a flow rate of
approximately 180 cc/min with the Pruitt-Inahara
outlying shunt and 220 cc/min with the
Inahara-Pruitt inlying shunt.
Safety balloon: if the internal carotid
balloon over-inflates, the extra pressure is
diverted to the safety balloon. 10-12 PSI is ideal
for maintaining internal carotid balloon pressure;
safety balloon inflates at 13-17 PSI.
Saf-T-Spand Safety Balloon Occlusion Catheter
The Saf-T-Spand is another alternative for
surgical procedures that would otherwise require
arterial clamping. It is ideal for visualizing high
stenosis endpoints in the internal carotid.
- Safety balloon inflates at 13-17 PSI
- Soft, clear polyurethane catheter with 5F
diameter
- 7-8 mm balloon diameter at maximum capacity
- Includes 27 cm catheter, syringe, and
stopcock
